While the school year may be winding down, the SCCAWS association is still winding up. Coming up are the SCCAWS golf tournament on June 12 and the SCCAWS Softball All-Star game for June 13-15. Make plans to join us and, coaches, remember to bring your CAWS registration card received at conference.
The 2015 Volleyball All Star teams have been released. Despite the prolonged dates of the playoffs because of flooding, the teams were decided in time to meet the deadlines for planning the All Star matches to be held at Erskine College in Due West, November 20th and 21st. Athletes will report on the 18th. Go to the Volleyball Announcements page to see this year's senior All Star athletes.
Because of recent weather problems, the Volleyball All Star Nomination process has been extended until Monday, October 12.
The new volleyball season is well underway by now. It is only the first full week of September and already the talk has started about next year's realignment issues. This year's athlete nominations for All Star and an announcement for this year's All Star volleyball coaches. Don't forget the coaches send volleyball nominations for All Star directly to Amy Boozer. (All State still goes through the region rep.) Coaches are responsible for making sure their nomination reaches Amy whether by email, fax or snail mail. Late nominations will be charged a fee.
To see who the special coaches are for this season's All Star match, hop on over to the Volleyball Announcements in the drop down under "Announcements."
It's always both exciting and tiring when that new season starts. We have to figure out who we will put where, and if we can get them to work as a team. It wears me out! However, I love these kids and am happy I can use the sport to introduce them to the bigger picture outside volleyball, especially as it will help their futures.
Anyway, here is some up-to-date information for teams with seniors who have what it takes to participate in the All Star Match. Remember, it isn't just because they are seniors but because they are the best seniors in volleyball in South Carolina.
Volleyball All Star Information
Coach information for nominating All Star players will be released soon. You should receive and email from your region rep very soon. Remember: Coaches are responsible for emailing, faxing or snail mailing nominations directly to Amy Boozer. The region reps are not sending that information. They should reach her before the end of the due date. Any late nominations will be subject to a fine. If you need confirmation that the information was received, please contact Amy.
For volleyball coaches, spring practice starts sooner than it used to. We are able to meet with our girls from March 9 through May 31. Soon after that, Open Season begins. I'd say we are back in the saddle again! It all "comes and goes so quickly around here!" Hey, we have to see what is coming up and what we can do to improve what we have. We have to start being coaching parents again. And, if we have to admit it, we do miss the girls. While life seems too busy, it always seems to put the world back in tilt when we hear them say, "Love you, Coach." We're back and as confining as it is with our personal lives, we still like being in that gym with those girls.
At the same time, we are working our real paying jobs and starting to schedule for the summer and for next season. If you are old hat, move on. If you are new to scheduling, remember our girls are allowed 18 play dates for varsity and 16 for JV. Any tournaments, even two day tournaments are considered one play date.
Of you coach close to a state border, remember that often their seasons are different than ours. We are allowed one preseason tournament. Often teams in other states want us to play a date earlier than our season, but it doesn't work that way. If you have any question at all, call Dru Nix at the SCHSL. She knows those rules inside and out, even the gray areas. If I have misrepresented here, she will let me know and I will let you know.
